I Am Not Content:
A Critique of AI in the Arts & Education
A Substack Newsletter
A Newsletter For Educators & Creatives
Artists’ and creators’ jobs, livelihoods, and careers are wholly threatened by GenAI and the Large Language Models (LLMs) used to train these programs – systems which are currently unregulated and are posited to use human creators’ copyrighted materials, such as books, articles, websites, and images without their permission.
We believe that there is much that can, and indeed must, be done to protect, preserve, and advance these especially at-risk professions.
While we believe that GenAI cannot be eradicated, we also believe it must be resisted, e.g., the fight currently being fought by SAG/AFTRA. Even if this proves to be a losing rear-guard defense, it will at the very least buy essential time.
Legal action is also essential, particularly in the field of copyright law. Consequently, each monthly issue of “I Am Not Content” will report on recent, relevant court opinions.
We are creative people by definition and by nature. We will explore creative responses to the GenAI revolution.
These are the kinds of ideas and concepts that “I Am Not Content” explores. We invite you—especially if you are working in the arts and/or education—to join us.
